The next 48 hours could be critical for de-escalation amidst heightened border tensions between India and Pakistan, according to defence experts. As firing and heavy shelling continue at the International Border (IB) and the Line of Control (LoC), and with reports of multiple Pakistani missiles being intercepted over Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab, analysts believe the situation is delicately poised.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday night spoke to chiefs of the country’s border guarding forces, including the BSF that guards India’s border with Pakistan, sources said.
During the conversation, the home minister took stock of the situation along the international borders as there has been heightened tension between India and Pakistan following India’s strike on multiple locations in Pakistan and PoK on Wednesday and Pakistan’s attempts to strike Indian military sites on Thursday.
A Pakistani Air Force jet was shot down by Indian air defence systems in the Pathankot sector of Punjab, multiple sources informed ANI on Friday. Official confirmation from the government is still pending, and more details are expected.
